Fighting Games
Ahh, fighting games. One of my weaker genres, but a fav nontheless. In high school, I started playing Street Fighter IV. My enjoyment was never from the competition side of things, but just having fun with combos. Going into college, I had a friend I would regularly spend time with and we would stay up all night alternating several games: Soulcalibur, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, and another that I can't seem to remember at the moment. Anyways, we would constantly just 'run it back' after each match and never kept up with win loss. We weren't great, but that made it fun to me.
I bought my first Smash Bros game in the past year, and it's been fun to play with other friends. Just, they're all pretty far above my skill level. I've found that skill gaps are extremely easy to build in smash compared to other games. I'm sure that's part of the reason why the game is so popular in the competitive scene.
I think they're probably some of the best games for having friends over to play and waste time on nowadays (couch co-op really isn't a thing anymore, nor are games really good for passing the controller between levels/deaths). Fighters will consistently be good for IRL multiplayer, just since they are designed for it.
