Police

I wanted to share a small excerpt of my current thoughts of the police that I wrote yesterday.

I have zero confidence that the us police is anything but a tool to protect the property and livelihoods of the bourgeoisie. No romanticizing who they are will change that core truth. They do not serve the people. They serve the institutions that give them more power. They have become so high on that power that they have no qualms murdering members of the country. If they did, there would be more high profile cases of them speaking out and making a difference. But it doesn't happen because the bad apples have spoiled the whole bunch. They protect each other instead of doing the right thing.

I'm trying to find the time to read through some free books I found online: The End of Policing is what I'm starting on now. Afterwards, I want to read Who Do You Serve, Who Do You Protect? Though these are books to reinforce my opinion, I would feel better having more direct evidence I could provide when discussing rather than metaphorical descriptions like we see above. I know that police brutality happens. I know that black people are victims of profiling. I know that police will get away with their crimes due to their close relationships with defense attorneys and prosecutors. But there are several people close to me I won't be able to convince unless I bring some backup to the table.
