Life with Dot

Thoughts, Musings, and Notes

So the other day, I went to get groceries at the local Sam's Club with my dad. While we were walking around, I noticed there was a TV on clearance: a 65” Samsung for $210. My dad immediately scooped it up for his bedroom. Well, it ended up not working out for his bedroom, so it's going in my game room for the time being.

Yesterday I logged into Windows because I wanted to stream something for friend and it's much more convenient that way. Well, as I logged in, I got a pop-up that my BIOS had an update available. I like keeping my systems up to date, so I figured “what's the worst that could happen?” Well, I learned the answer to that question.

So a little while ago, I finished up watching Part 5 of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. With that book closed, I needed to find a new show to watch. Initially, I was going to rewatch Shin Sekai Yori, but my friend recommended we watch Neon Genesis Evangelion together.

Apologies for the break between posts. Fortunately, work has picked up, which is great. In addition, I was nominated for a chair in a local organization I've been volunteering for. The Minecraft server also took up a lot of energy that I wasn't expecting. Luckily, it's settled down and is at a point where I can sit back and enjoy it. I've got a new website project in my mind as well: updating the site to have a static home page and turning the blog into a subdomain.

We're halfway through the 100daystooffload as well now. In retrospect, I should focus more on the DAYS to offload, rather than 100 posts. I need a bit of a fire to my feet sometimes to get me moving. I'll try to keep it up for the next little bit.

I've had two bad habits pretty much my entire life: trichotillomania (pulling out hairs) and peeling the skin off my lips. There are times when I can go a few days without issues, but then there are days where I'm in a trance for hours on end. Today is one of those days. I can't wait to get electrolysis to at least alleviate the first one. It is a big priority for me at this point.

Ah, Minecraft, the most influential game of the past decade, the best selling game of all time, and the game I could never get in to.

This weekend is one of the many lazy weekends I've had the past few months. Since covid hit, I haven't really been able to go out and do much of anything on the weekends. So it's been all about staying at home and playing games. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's not fulfilling in any way. I should probably pick up some form of exercising again. I bet that would help.

Last Thursday, I managed to get my dad to do some couch gaming with me. As much as I would have liked to do that more when I was younger, it just never happened. I can tell my dad would struggle playing the same 3D adventure games that I like to play. One game that he did like from the early 90s was Star Fox for the SNES. As far as in the present day, he's definitely not going to pick up gaming as a hobby, but it's a nice way for us to spend time together.

Yesterday marks the day I paid off my last loan; nearly $20,000 paid off in four years. I celebrated last night, since I have been looking forward to this day for so long. As mentioned in a previous post, my main goal was to gain the freedom to decide how to use my money.

I'm someone that likes having full control over the hardware I own. This comes to a head when it comes to my gaming consoles. I learned about hacking consoles several years ago with my 3DS. Since then, I've hacked my Vita, Wii, PlayStation Classic, and I'm constantly looking at Nintendo Switch hacking news to see any progress in the scene. I want to share with you all a bit of extra detail on what console hacking is all about.
